Franklin Odel, Former Board Member FAR Bazzar, an "alternative" art fair, was held at The Old Federal Reserve Bank Building in downtown Los Angeles for three weekends in December, 1992. Over 300 local artists participated with site specific installations, art exhibits, video, music, and performance. The event received support and funding from the California Redevelopment Agency (CRA), the Peter Norton Family Foundation, and the David Geffin Foundation. There were over 5000 visitors and wide media coverage. Conceived as an alternative to the L.A. Art Fair held each year at the Convention Center, we wanted to offer an art fair for artists--as opposed to an art fair for gallery owners. The event achieved it's stated goals: "The specific activities of the Far Bazzar will be as eclectic and diverse as the Los Angeles arts community itself, with careful attention given to full representation of the City's cultural and ethnic richness."
