OPEN CALL FOR NEW MEMBERS
for the
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
of the
FOUNDATION FOR ART RESOURCES (F.A.R.)
The Call
The Foundation for Art Resources (F.A.R.) is seeking enthusiastic artists
and arts professionals to join its Board of Directors. FAR is dedicated
to challenging, redefining, and fueling the growth of new artwork in the
Los Angeles region. We are seeking individuals with passion and vision
to help shape the future of this organization.
The Background
In 1977, FAR was founded by artists in L.A. to facilitate the production
and presentation of work by artists who challenge and expand the boundaries
of established notions of art and art-making within the Los Angeles region.
FAR, a nonprofit arts organization, aims to act as a catalyst for activities
that foster dialogue and interaction between artists and the public. FAR
functions without a permanent exhibition space, office, or paid staff.
FAR's programs and services are organized and administered by a Board
of Directors who meet bimonthly. The Board is comprised of artists, arts
professionals, and those with vested interest to serve the organization
and Los Angeles. The Board of Directors is responsible for all aspects
of FAR, including programming, policymaking, fundraising, grant-writing,
and administration. There is no Director of FAR, and all decisions are
determined by consensus.
"What I find interesting," muses a previous FAR Board member,
"is that this organization has been able to remain active and viable
for over twenty years, and has continuously maintained a prominent place
in LA's alternative art scene." Indeed, while so many other artist-run
venues and services have come and gone during this same stretch of time,
FAR has not only prevailed, but grown arguably stronger and wiser. FAR,
as an organization, has maintained its flexibility, openness, and adaptability
– an ongoing shortage of free time and money has no doubt contributed
to FAR’s success. FAR keeps at bay the bureaucratic trappings of
official institutionalization; simply put, FAR's commitment to The New
precludes any sort of self-interest.
The Future
If you are interested in serving on FAR’s Board of Directors, please
send the following items by April 20, 2005 to
info@farsited.org
1) Your response to the following questions:
What is your vision for arts and culture in Los Angeles? How do you
see FAR helping to realize this vision, through your involvement on its
Board of Directors?
2) Attach your resume or CV formatted as a PDF or Word document in Rich
Text Format (RTF)
3) In your email, please indicate your available hours on our interview
day, Saturday, May 7, 2005, between 10am and 6pm. The current Board of
Directors will review all submissions and choose candidates for interview
– we want to be sure to schedule a time convenient for the selected
candidates.
Once again, please be sure to inform FAR of your interest by Wednesday,
April 20, 2005.
